Orville A. Verhoff
OTTAWA – Orville A. Verhoff, 82, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born December 10, 1940, in Ottawa to the late Urban and Philomena (Karhoff) Verhoff. On September 12, 1964, he married Audrey Ellerbrock, who survives in Ottawa.
Also surviving are their 3 children, Julie (Tim) de la Houssaye of Cleveland, TX, Jerry (Ruth) Verhoff of Seattle, WA and Randy (Sharon) Verhoff of Ottawa; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings: Dee Annesser of Ottawa, Victor (Pat) Verhoff of Idaho Falls, ID and in-laws: Evie Verhoff of Ottawa and Bob Canipe of Shelby, NC.
Orville is preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Jean Canipe and a brother, Lambert Verhoff.
Orville graduated in 1959 from Glandorf High School. He retired from Louisiana Pacific after 41 years. He served in the Ohio Army National Guard for 7 years and was a member of the Ottawa VFW and the Ottawa AmVets. He served as a member of the VFW Color Guard.
He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and served as cemetery caretaker for 21 years. Orville was also of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus, Ottawa Eagles and the Lima Moose Lodge.
Orville was an avid fisherman and loved camping with his Lake friends. He loved wood-working and made many pieces of furniture. He owned harness racing horses for several years and enjoyed the spirit of racing. Orville was a devoted sports fan and enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports, anything OG Titans and was a big fan of the Michigan Wolverines.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at the Meadows of Ottawa, Putnam County Hospice, Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center and The James for the special care they provided Orville.
There will be a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Father Rick Friebel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa VFW, American Legion, DAV and AmVets.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 25, 2023, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Brush Creek Barn at Stechschulte Farms 6266 County Road D, Leipsic, OH 45856.
The arrangements are under the direction of HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Columbus Grove.
