Daniel J. Verhoff

   COLUMBUS GROVE – Daniel J. Verhoff, 66, of Columbus Grove died 11:06 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the Meadows of Kalida after a 10-year battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia.  He was born January 16, 1956, in Lima to the late Amos and Helen (Lucke) Verhoff.  On September 2, 1977, he married Mary Kay Koch, who survives in Columbus Grove.

   He is also survived by 2 daughters:  Kelly (Jeromie) Martz of Columbus Grove and Rebecca (Jason) Boughan of Elida; 5 grandchildren:  Lauren Martz, Levi Martz, Maddox Boughan, Sebastian Boughan and Kaya Boughan; 5 siblings:  Marge (Larry) Tabler of Columbus Grove, Judy (Gary) Kirst of Columbus Grove, Bill (Monica) Verhoff of Milford Center, Mary (Randy) Diller of Fort Recovery and Mike (Kim) Verhoff of Columbus Grove; mother-in-law;  Julie Koch of Columbus Grove; sisters-in-law:  Lena Verhoff of Ottawa, Grace Verhoff of Buford, GA, Carol Pitney Maruhnich of Kalida, Pat (Ed) Birnesser of Columbus Grove and Mary Kay Koch of Columbus Grove and a brother-in-law:  Robert Palte.

   Dan was preceded in death by 2 brothers:  Ivan Verhoff and Ronald Verhoff; sister:  Alice Palte; father-in-law:  Edward Koch; brother-in-law:  John Koch and a grandson:  Mckale Martz.

   Dan was a 1974 graduate of Columbus Grove High School and a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.  He retired from Unverferth Manufacturing after 40 years of service.  He was a 45-year member of the Cairo-Columbus Grove Bass Club, and a lifetime member of the Kalida Fish and Game Club.  Dan loved mentoring new fisherman, and had countless big fishing tales.

   Dan was an avid Bulldog fan and enjoyed watching his grandkids participate in their various athletic events.  Along with his best friend and wife, he loved camping at Crooked Lake, Angola, IN as well as searching the backroads for covered bridges.

   A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Columbus Grove with Father David Ritchie officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2022 and again for 1 hour prior to the service at the HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Columbus Grove.

   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Columbus Grove School’s "Bless a Bulldog” program or a charity of the donor’s choice.

   The Verhoff Family would like to thank the Meadows of Kalida, Putnam County Homecare and Hospice and Dr. Jacinta Eickholt for Daniel’s superb and loving care.  A special thank you to Joyce Wiley for providing exceptional care and sharing a special bond with Dan while he was still at home.
